Overview: 

Bio-Enable is a distributed research infrastructure. Through its technological platforms, it provides industries with innovative services for the characterization and design of biomolecules, biomaterials, vaccines, bioactive molecules and bioengineering systems, in-vitro, in-cell and in-vivo.

Bio-Enable's support can be at various levels and with different types of contracts: from simple access to instrumentation to specific types of consultancy, help and assistance to industrial research. Bio-Enable's research offer is flexible and adaptable to the highest degree to the various needs of companies. The infrastructure partners are the CERM of the University of Florence, the Institute of Neuroscience of the CNR of Pisa, the Institute of BioRobotics of the Scuola Sant'Anna and the Department of Medical Biotechnology of the University of Siena.

  • In addition to Scientific Advice and Scientific Collaboration services, Bio-Enable provides the following services, which together have the ability to support various industrial design pipelines:

    - Structural characterization of biomolecules by NMR
    - Analysis of the interaction between biomolecules via NMR
    - Analysis of the interaction between biomolecules via microscopy
    - Analysis of the interaction between biomolecules and small molecules (screening) via NMR
    - In vivo analysis of biomolecules and biomaterials by microscopy
    - Analysis of biomolecules in the cell by NMR
    - Transcriptomic analysis of human RNA
    - Analysis by multi-parameter flow cytometry
    - In vivo test of immune response after vaccination
    - Metabolomic analysis via NMR
    - Analysis of materials by means of compression and stress-strain tests
    - Measurement of magnetic properties of materials
    - Analysis of materials and biomaterials at the atomic level by means of solid-state NMR
    - Morphological and topographical characterization of materials and biomaterials by microscopy
    - In vitro biocompatibility analysis of biomaterials and biological response in 3D systems obtained by bioprinting
    - Functionalisation and activation of surfaces by means of air or oxygen plasma
