Research Infrastructures & Technology Platforms

  • LMTI

    Via Santa Marta, 3 - 50139 - Firenze

    "The Laboratory of Methods and Techniques for Innovation (LMTI) develops tools and methodologies to support the design and development of innovative products and processes and transfer the knowledge acquired to the industrial sphere. The activities of interest, to which correspond the relative services that the Laboratory is able to offer, are related to:
    - Reengineering of business processes, based on value innovation and through the definition of methodological tools for the analysis of processes, identification of critical phases, definition of necessary and sustainable innovations for the removal of critical points.
    - Conceptual design of products/services
    - Problem - Systematic solving, through the skills of methodologies to support the identification of innovative solutions (TRIZ, the laboratory is part of the national center ""Center of Competence for Systematic Innovation"").
    - Patent database analysis for retrieving technical knowledge for checking technological trends, analysing the state of the art, identifying the characteristic functions of a patent/product."

  • CIBIC

    Piazzale delle Cascine, 18 - 50144 - Firenze

    "The Interdepartmental Centre for Bioclimatology (CIBIC) deals with the study of the interactions between atmospheric processes and living organisms in relation to the prevention of pathologies linked to climate conditions (e.g. respiratory or cardiovascular pathologies), the analysis of the effects of atmospheric pollution, living environments, and the exploitation and optimisation of climatic resources by man.
    The Centre is particularly active in the fields:
    - evaluation of the effects of thermal conditions on health and development of prevention systems;
    - evaluation of the effects of thermo-hygrometric conditions on hospital admissions/mortality in relation also to climate change;
    - evaluation of internationally available biometeorological indices and their applicability in the urban environment;
    - determination of pollen and spore concentrations in relation to the weather and climate conditions present and the effects on health;
    - study of thermal comfort in indoor and outdoor environments with assessment of the thermal resistance of the clothing;
    - influence of weather and climate conditions on children's behaviour."

  • BIOlab

    Via Giuseppe Moruzzi, 3 - 56124 - Pisa

    "The Laboratory of Bioactive Polymeric Materials for Biomedical and Environmental Applications (BIOlab) is the reference centre for biodegradable and biocompatible polymeric materials of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Materials Science and Technology (INSTM), and is made up of 5 research units coordinated by the unit at Dip. Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of Pisa.
    This unit has numerous lines of research on polymeric biomaterials from various sources, in the packaging, agro-industrial, marine, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. In particular, research is conducted (synthesis, optimization, characterization and additive manufacturing methods) on biomaterials, including nanostructured, for controlled release therapies, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering.
      • Pharma/Biopharma

  • LaMM

    Via della Lastruccia, 3-13 - 50019 - Sesto Fiorentino

    "The Laboratory of Molecular Magnetism (LaMM) studies the magnetic properties of chemical compounds at the molecular level, through magnetic measurements to obtain structural information, and the design, synthesis, chemical-physical characterization and modelling (using sophisticated computational techniques) of magnetic materials. LAMM is involved in many fields of molecular nanomagnets, from the exploration of quantum capabilities of the simple molecular system, to the development of new single molecule magnets, up to the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles. In addition, the laboratory is now an important international centre of surface materials. The main lines of research are molecular nanomagnets, magnetic nanoparticles (applications for theranostics and sensors), computational chemistry, nanostructured systems and architectures, coheren molecular spin.

      • Medical devices/Biotech (non pharma)

  • Laboratorio di progettazione e sintesi di API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients)

    Via A. Moro, 2 - 53100 - Siena

    "API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) Design and Synthesis Laboratory is involved in research and development of innovative sustainable processes for the preparation of pharmaceutical active ingredients, development of low environmental impact procedures to be applied to the production of drugs, consulting and development of ""non-improving"" synthetic methods for the production of drugs aimed at the generic market.
    The laboratory has at its disposal microwave reactors, flow synthesizers, HPLC, HPLC /MS and other standard analytical instruments of organic synthesis."
