  • BIOlab

    Via Giuseppe Moruzzi, 3 - 56124 - Pisa

"The Laboratory of Bioactive Polymeric Materials for Biomedical and Environmental Applications (BIOlab) is the reference centre for biodegradable and biocompatible polymeric materials of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Materials Science and Technology (INSTM), and is made up of 5 research units coordinated by the unit at Dip. Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of Pisa. This unit has numerous lines of research on polymeric biomaterials from various sources, in the packaging, agro-industrial, marine, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. In particular, research is conducted (synthesis, optimization, characterization and additive manufacturing methods) on biomaterials, including nanostructured, for controlled release therapies, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering.

  • BIOLAB - LATO

    Via Santa Marta, 3 - 50139 - Firenze

"In the Biomechanical Laboratory - BIOLAB, activities are carried out that refer to different sectors of biomechanics (prosthetics and rehabilitation systems for the musculoskeletal system, orthodontic devices, biofluidodynamics, movement analysis, clinical engineering, biomaterial characterization such as bone, tendons, corneas and pericardium, neonatal monitoring), both at the experimental and prototype level and with simulation systems. In particular, the GAIT analysis laboratory is a joint laboratory with the San Pietro Igneo hospital in Fucecchio for the acquisition of kinematic and dynamic parameters of the gait of people with hip and knee replacements in support of rehabilitation programmes and surgical procedures. In the Laboratory of Ocular Thermography - LATO, at the Ophthalmic Clinic of the University of Florence, research is carried out on ophthalmic pathologies linked to deficiencies in the blood flow in the eye, which affect the surface temperature of the eye, in particular as regards the experimental analysis of blood perfusion, the analysis of dry eye pathology, studies on different techniques of cataract surgery."

  • BIONEN

    Via P. Petrocchi, 42/1 - 50127 - Firenze-FI

Bionen has been an Italian manufacturer of electrodes and accessories for neurophysiology since 1989. The entire product portfolio is made in Italy and mainly includes needle and surface electrodes for the detection and measurement of brain (EEG) and muscle (EMG) activity. Bionen can create custom products to meet all customer needs. The Company Quality System conforms to ISO 13485:2012 and ISO 9001 standards in the design/development, manufacture, installation and service of medical devices. All products comply with Directive 93/42/EEC and subsequent amendments for CE marking, and part of them with FDA Quality Systems Regulation 21 CFR. 820. To ensure effective control of the level of contamination of the devices, part of the production process is carried out in a controlled environment (ISO 8 cleanroom).

  • BPNLab

Via Madonna del Piano, 10 - 50019 - Sesto Fiorentino

BioPhotonics and Nanomedicine Lab (BPNLab) at the Institute of Applied Physics of CNR (IFAC-CNR) in Florence, carries out applied research on laser technology, plasmonic nanoparticles for theranostics, multiphoton and photoacoustic microscopy, plasmon-enhanced spectroscopies and sensing, biosensing. In particular, the research activies are focused on: - preclinical and clinical studies on the use of laser and other optoelectronics devices for minimally invasive surgery (e.g. in ophthalmology, microvascular surgery and dermatology), photocoagulation, biomedical imaging, laser-assisted repair of biological tissues - development and applications of plasmonic nanoparticles for theranostics, light-sensitive implantable devices for "on demand“ drug release - microscopy analysis (e.g. fluorescence, Raman, - multiphoton and photoacoustic) on molecules of biological and medical interest - plasmon-enhanced spectroscopies and sensing (SERS, TERS) - agri-food photonics and biosensing BPNLab has several partnership with companies and academia and it actively participates in European projects on biophotonics and optoelectronics.

  • Centro ProSIT - UniPI

    Via S. Zeno, 35 - 56123 - Pisa

The Interdepartmental Centre for Health Promotion and Information Technology (ProSIT) was established in 2017 with the main aim of promoting innovation in public health, through the extensive use of new information and communication technologies. The Centre, which is currently based in the Department of Biology, is also joined by the Departments of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery, Computer Science, Information Engineering and Civilisations and Forms of Knowledge and has the general objective of designing, implementing, evaluating and promoting innovative methods and systems to address old and new challenges for health protection. The Centre's activities are divided into research and teaching activities and are integrated with those carried out by the Departments and their professors. For example: applications of data mining for big data, explainable artificial intelligence, federated learning, data stream mining, sentiment analysis and opinion mining, genetic fuzzy systems, fuzzy clustering algorithms, etc. to the study of bio-indicators of exposure or susceptibility, to the development of models of environmental health risk analysis, to epidemiology, to cybersecurity and privacy, to bionformatics and chemo-informatics, to personalised medicine, to Ambient Assisted Living, to Human Activity Recognition.
